Mission Statement
As the national program’s mission states,“The SHPEtinas program accelerates and affirms Latina representation at all levels of STEM corporate and academic leadership. Encouraging Latinas to pursue higher education and careers in STEM recognizes the unique perspective they bring to solving the world's most pressing problems while creating new, influential role models for future leaders."
Igniting Latinas in STEM
Only 2% of Latinas held science and engineering positions in 2015 despite being 9% of the population. Offered as a dedicated conference at the National Convention and through special events at the national, regional, and chapter level, the SHPEtinas program encourages, empowers, and retains Latinas in STEM by providing strategies to overcome obstacles and thrive.
